RTÉ, with a somewhat odd idea of public service, has run a competition to find Ireland’s “greatest” person and has placed the heroic name of James Connolly beside that of Bono, something one would never imagine. But James Connolly wouldn’t be upset in the least, and neither would we be – except to imagine what the philistines of pop, anti-culture and ‘dumbing down’ and the vested interests who have run this country into the ground would make of the scenario if Bono were to win such a competition.
As much as we dislike the whole concept of this competition we have to recommend voting for James Connolly. Voting in this will close during the Late Late Show on Friday, 22nd October.
Please retweet and/or pass on this as widly as possible.
To ‘vote’ for James Connolly: text GREAT 3 to 53125 or
In the north phone 0901 6565 803
In the south phone 1513 71 71 03
Note, these are all calls/text that will cost you money, RTÉ is fund-raising with this. You are even allowed to vote multiple times … its all revenue, this seems to be what drives our public broadcasting service!
